Charles Nast, the" photographer, has just received news of the sudden death of hif sister, Miss Martha L. Xast, at Brooklyn, N. Y., of heart disease. Miss Nast was a fchool teacher of District Xo. 1 in Denver for several years, and was welt liked. The friends of Miss Anna Kelly gave her a pleasant surprise party at the home oi momas morns- in Jiarman one evening lat week and presented her with a fine bicycle. Miss Kelly is the young lady who contested for the bicycle ath the Harman church fair, but whom the judges declared- defeated defeat-ed by one-half a vote. Her friends did not regard the decision as fair, and Al. derman, Lamont and Mr. John and Mr. Roth organized the party for her benefit. bene-fit. The table was aglow with red carnations, end the red lights reflecting orv the well appointed table was very ciTer-tive. The name cards were dainty little conceits in book form with tiny sprays of holly and mistletoe on the outside cover. The gues.ts were Misses Barbara Fisher, Cornelia Jerome, Florence Kountze. Catharine Wood, Mrs. Frances Clutton, Mrs. James Augustus Skinner. Mrs. T. A. Hughes, Mrs. William P. Malburn and Mrs. J. F. PfeifTer. Letter carriers and their families and friends attended the installation of the? newly elected officers of branch No. 47, National Letter Carriers' association, at Elks' hall, 1517 Lawrence street. Saturday Sat-urday night. Following the installation came a musical programme and speeches by officers and members. J. C. McMahan. ex-state vice president, presi-dent, acted as installing officer, assisted by J. B. Swanland. The exercises were of the regular form. Following were the officers installed: L. M. He reviewed re-viewed the history of the organization and its growth and. progress. The programme pro-gramme which followed the installation installa-tion was in charge of F. M. Newman, chairman of the entertainment committee, commit-tee, and J. B. Deavlan, master of ceremonies. cere-monies. A number of the members of the Denver Maennerchor and their wives greeted Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kirchhof at their residence, 1049 South Eleventh street, on Wednesday night last, surprising sur-prising them with a musical programme pro-gramme and refresh men.ts. Mr. Kirchhof. Kirch-hof. who ia a member of this popular musical and social organization, was s;xn Fufileiently at ease to assist his wife in giving tip pess.-ssion of his home to the welcome merrymakers. Vocal and instrumental music intervened be tween choice refreshments and dancing, danc-ing, inaugurating a new year social season among the families of the Maennerchor Maen-nerchor which prcm'iFies to be exceedingly exceed-ingly enjoyable.
