Show t PUEBLO. : GERMAN CATHOLICS. Have Withdrawn From St. Mary's Have Their Own. Church. German Catholics in Pueblo are to have a church of their own, says the Pueblo Chieftain of a late date. The last of the necessary arrangements to this end have been completed, and after af-ter several months' quiet, work to secure se-cure a location the committee in charge of that part of the work has reported favorably on the property known as the Mount Pleasant place, corner of Summit and Sixth streets, making the first payment and signing the contract for the balance. St. Mary's church in the grove is the present worshipping place for the German Ger-man Catholics, and for some time they have been desirous of having their own church,7 their numbers having increased in-creased sufficiently large to warrant their being independent. The separation separa-tion from St. Mary's is entirely amicable amica-ble on all sides, having been agreed upon at the time of the founding of that church and has been approved by the highest authorities in the diocese. It. is deemed for the best interests of all that the separation be made and is in no sense understood to arise from any dissatisfaction or dissension in the congregation. In 1891 the present church was founded found-ed by the German Catholics of the city in conjunction with the Austriaus of that faith, and an old frame broom factory near the Clerk well was used until a sanctuary could be built. As the membership grew and the need of , more room became necessary, Father Benno of the Germans and Father Cyril Cy-ril of the Austrians worked zealously for the building of a new church, with the result that the large edifice of St. Mary's was erected in 1S95. ' ' Immediate possession of the new building cannot be taken, as it is at present occupied and will not be vacated. vacat-ed. The Germans have the privilege of i St. Mary's church until the latter part of May. Just what changes will be made in the building have not yet been determined, although plans are being discussed at the present time. Father Gregory, who has been at St. Mary's since last January, will be the priest of the German church, and - will have about forty families in his congregation. congrega-tion.
