Show THREE-YEAR OLD TO T STRUCK BY AUTO AND DIES WIT HIN A HALF AN HOUR MR. AND MRS. STAGGERS LOSE ONLY CHILD IN ACCIDENT WEDNESDAY EVENING The community was shocked early Wednesday evening to hear of the tragic death of little Roland Staggers, three-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Staggers. The child was run over by an automobile and died in a few minutes after. The accident occurred in front of the Staggers residence across the corner cor-ner from the Christian Science church at 7:45 in the evening. A brother of Mrs. Staggers, William Corbier, was making the Staggers family a visit from San Bernardino, and with him he had brought his friend and pal as a visitor. The latter, shortly after . the evening meal, went out to the curb to drive the car down town. Roland Ro-land ran out also, and got in the way of the auto. The car which was an old Ford touring car, had no fenders nor running board. This fact, coupled coup-led with the fact that it was dark and cloudy, prevented the young man from knowing he had run over the boy until upon his return from town a few minutes later. The child was not immediately ' rendered unconscious, but ran toward the house screaming that "the auto hurt him". Mr. and Mrs. Staggers at once placed tlie boy on a bed, and Wayne Richards, who was a supper guest at the home, went in his car for a doctor. Dr. Parrish was notified by Richards, but the boy had passed away before his arrival. Death was pronounced due to internal hemorrhages hemorr-hages caused by a ruptured spleen. The body is being taken to San Bernardino, California, where services ser-vices and burial will be held. The young man at the wheel of the car was emotionally overcome when he ' found out what had happened. The father of the tot is a switchman switch-man in the Milford yards. Roland is the only child, Mr. artd Mrs. Staggers having occasioned the loss of an infant child about a year ago. The death of Roland following the loss of their baby is an extremrjely sorrowful event and one in which the community com-munity extends its full sympathy to the father and mother. |
