Show Uintah GOP Chief Brands Caravan Trip As Political The chairman of the GOP Central Committee of Uintah County has written Agricultural Agricultur-al Secretary Ezra Taft Benson that "insofar as this area is concerned con-cerned the cattlemen's caravan was purely politics." Edna C. Eskelson sent copies of her letter to the Utah congressional con-gressional delegation. She also wrote: "Regarding the recent Farmers' Union cattlemen's cat-tlemen's caravan, we wish to inform you of the very unpopular unpopu-lar way in which this area was represented. From the two counties, coun-ties, Uintah and Duchesne, not one delegate can be regarded as a cattle producer: "From Duchesne County one delegate was a doctor and the other delegates, we understand, are all dairy producers.' "From Uintah County one delegate is a retired art teacher who has never owned more than one milk cow. The other sold out his cattle permit in approximately approxi-mately 1946 and has not been in the cattle industry until this . year when he has been speculating speculat-ing in buying at low prices. "Neither delegate from Uintah Uin-tah County is a member of the local cattle association of which approximately 85 per. cent of the cattlemen are members." She also enclosed an advertisement adver-tisement from the Vernal Express Ex-press of Oct. 29 signed by Joe Haslem, president of the Uintah Cattle Ass'n. It declared that Charles P. Lewis and Ralph S. Calder, members of the caravan, "do not represent the local cattle cat-tle growers." |
