Show I Reservation News - - - I About The x (j) UINTAH-OURAY INDIAN RESERVATION Jxj RECREATION PROGRAM READY FOR TRIBE The newly created Recreation Recrea-tion Department for the Ute Tribe is under the auspicies of the Uintah-Ouray Reservation, and is directed by Ray Summers. Sum-mers. The Recreation Department Depart-ment has a comprehensive program pro-gram arranged to stimulate interest in-terest and activity in Tribal functions, the first of which was a Tribal Turkey Shoot held Saturday, Sat-urday, Nov. 21. This was a success suc-cess for those who attended. In addition to the following proposed winter program, the Recreation Department has planned for Tribal and Community Commun-ity activity socials, parties and special interests to afford recreation recre-ation and enjoyment for all. The proposed program which may be modified, for this coming com-ing winter is as follows: Competitive Sports (Where facilities permit), Basketball, inter-tribal teams; Boxing, instruction in-struction and boxing matches; Wrestling, Instruction and wrestling wrest-ling matches; Volley Ball, inter-tribal teams; Ping Pong, tournament competition; Bowling, Bowl-ing, inter-tribal teams and bowling bowl-ing leagues; Shuffleboard, tournament tour-nament competition. Non - Competitive Sports Skiing, instruction and ski clubs organized; Ice Skating, instruction instruc-tion and possible hockey teams organized"; Toboggan parties; Sleigh Parties, horse - drawn sleighs. Competitive Games Checkers, Check-ers, tournament competition; Bingo; Chess, tournament competition; com-petition; Other games to be used as socials and parties. Music Solo', Duet, and Choir groups organized; Tribal Talent Shows, inter-tribal competition; com-petition; Music Appreciation, record club, with a panel for analyzing and criticizing records, rec-ords, classical, semi-classical, popular and folk-music records; Orchestra or Instrumental Combo, Com-bo, instrument training and group organization. Classes To Be Arranged And Taught a. Drama, plays, tab-leaus, tab-leaus, pageants, pantomines; b. Speech, interpretation, history, oratory, debate, public speaking; speak-ing; c. Poetry, readings, pantomimes, panto-mimes, etc; d. Dancing, square dancing, folk dancing, ball room dancing, modern and creative dancing, miscellaneous, foreign dances, native Indian dances; e. Arts, water colors, oils, charcoal char-coal and pencil sketching. Note: in conjuction with the art program pro-gram many of the following sections sec-tions (hobbies and crafts, can be intermingled with the art program. . . i.e. painting dishes and figurines that are the resultant re-sultant of hobby work. Hobbies And Crafts Toy Manufacturing (marketable toys in rubber and wood; (2) Leather Craft, instruction and display; (3) Cereamics, instruction and painting, glazing, baking; (4) Tribal Ceremony and Dance Equipment, making costumes, etc.; (5) Sewing, center organized, organ-ized, instruction, pattern making, mak-ing, design, styling, etc. Quilting groups also in conjunction with organized sewing centers; (6) Woodwork, cabinet making, furniture fur-niture refinishing and furniture construction; (7) Metal Work, instrluction for sheet metal and wraught iron work, furniture work; (8) Interior Decoration, instruction in selection of fabrics, fab-rics, lamp making, furniture and upholstery work, paints and colors, design, etc. Other activities organized as needed and desired. R-N WHITEROCKS MEETING There will be a meeting of the Whiterocks community on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1953, at 1:00 p.m. in the school library, for the purpose of discussing operation oper-ation and maintenance of the Whiterocks water and sewage disposal systems. The store, the school, churches, church-es, the cafe, and residents should send representatives to this meeting. It may be possible that a water board will be elected elect-ed at this meeting to administer i and supervise these activities. R-N H. W. Gilmore, superintendent, superinten-dent, spent Tuesday and Wednesday Wed-nesday of this week transacting business on the Kanosh Reservation Reser-vation near Fillmore, Utah. Rex Curry, Paul Howard and Albert Harris transacted Tribal business in Salt Lake City on Tuesday. They also conferred with Tribal Attorney John S. Boyden on various Indian matters. mat-ters. . .. Roy Adams, Wilson Gutzman, Charles Hunter, Jack Adams and Merl Axtel enjoyed a successful suc-cessful deer hunt in Brown's Park over the weekendend. R-N NEWS BRIEFS The Mazie Root family, from Whiterocks, have moved to their new home two miles south of Neola. It is a new six-room house, completely modern in every respect. It is located on the rural mail route and the school bus routes to both Roosevelt Roose-velt and Neola. Mr. and Mrs. Root have four children, who contributed to the cost of constructing con-structing the building. This family fam-ily is to be commended for the planning and construction of a permanent family home. |
