Show State Legislature To Convene Next Tuesday On Special Call Legislators from Utah's twen-"' ty-nine counties will assemble on Capitol Hill in Salt Lake City at the call of Governor J. BROTHERSON. represents repre-sents Duchesne County in special session. "Bracken Lee, who has set Dec. 1 as the date for a special session ses-sion of the 1953 legislature. The session will continue until matters mat-ters admitted and recommended by the governor are disposed of. It is anticipated the legislators will be in session about two weeks. Leading the legislative delegation dele-gation from the Uintah Basin will be Senator B. H. String-ham, String-ham, R., Vernal, wro represents both Duchesne and Uintah coun-tie's coun-tie's in the state senate. Lower house members are William Brotherson, R., Boneta, representing repre-senting Duchesne County, and Clair R. Hopkins., R., Vernal, Uintah County.- Special items the governor has asked the legislators to consider con-sider first, with the possibility of others being presented them at intervals, include: Uniform use of textbooks in all Utah school districts. Uniform courses of study in all districts, with lay citizens to participate in this formulation. Amendments to the present law on compulsory kindergarten maintenance and attendance. Amendments to the school census law to include all children chil-dren under 18 years of age and set an earlier annual date for taking the census. A resolution to propose an amendment to the constitution, permitting the Legislature to consolidate school districts. Giving county clerks responsibility respon-sibility for handling school board elections. Registration of private schools. Setting school board elections for the regular November polls, and specifying board members' tenure of office. Filling school board vacancies by the city or county commission commis-sion if the local board fails to do so within 30 days. Provision for a merit or incentive in-centive salary payment plan for school personnel. Permissive employment o f school personnel upon a five-year five-year tenure by contract, with certain standard limitations in the contracts.
