Show Flood project to go ahead near high school City, county and school district officials met with Lee McQuivey, of the Army Corps of Engineers, and agreed to go ahead with an emergency bank protection project on Mill Creek adjacent to the high school. The agreement was made during the regular City Council Coun-cil meeting Tuesday, Sept. 20. Under the agreement, the county will make the request of the corps to go ahead with the work, with assurances signed by city, county and school district. The county will furnish rock and gravel, and the school district will furnish an easement ease-ment for the work. Some other easements may be needed need-ed from property owners in the area. The corps will furnish specifications speci-fications on what is to be done, with local contractors doing the work and the corps paying the bill, about $35,000. Also at the council meeting Continental Telephone requested re-quested permission for installation instal-lation of buried cable from the telephone office to Spanish Valley. Since location of the line was questioned, the council coun-cil set a special meeting at 10 a.m. Sept. 23 to perform on-site inspection and determine deter-mine the route of the cable, deferring approval until that time. At the same time the council coun-cil will inspect the Evert Pittman property at 371 East 3rd South to check the location loca-tion of a sidewalk he wishes to install in relation to a non-conforming fence previously approved ap-proved by a former city employee. Marj Tomsic read a letter from Sam Taylor which requested re-quested that a pavirfg project in conjunction with the finishing finish-ing of McGill Ave., underway for nearly a year, be completed complet-ed on 5th West. The council voted to cancel a purchase order with Engstrom Contracting Con-tracting for the work, and authorized the city administrator admini-strator to issue the purchase order to Southern Paving if the price is the same. If the price is higher, the council will consider the matter again at its next meeting. The council also voted to bring legal action against Jerry Croasmun and Ray Stratton to clean up their respective properties. |
