Show o TWO NEW TENNIS CHAMPS Two of the very best tournaments ever conducted by the M'ilford Tennis Club were concluded this past week. Over fifty players competed for honors, hon-ors, and some real battles took place. Miss Mildred Killam became the wo-rrfan wo-rrfan champion by reason of five successive suc-cessive victories, winning from Mrs. Root in the finals by scores of 6-1, 8-6. A compilation of all sets played by Miss Killam in the tournament gives her 64 games won and 20 lost Miss Killam was a bit too steady for any of the other players, displaying marked ability in backhand and fore hand driving. In the men's singles, Homer Root won his way to the top, defeating W. T. Morley in the finals by scores of 6-1, 6-3. A compilation shows that Mr. Root won 48 games and lost 13. In the semi-finals, Mr. Morley defeated Robert Killam, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2, and Mr. Root defeated Ted McCulley, 6-1, 6-1. At the present time, 40 doubles teams are competing for honors in three doubles tourna-rnjents. tourna-rnjents. Efforts also are being made to secure team matches with neighboring neigh-boring cities. |
