Show GOVERNMENT BY PARTY EEST By EX -PHKSir KNT COOI.IDCE IT IS necessary to liave jjartli-s to maintain our form of government. Free government must be through politicul parties. The countries wliicli we consider or speak of as backward continue to suffer mo-'t because lliey do not liave well-organ ized political parties. When changes are desired, they are often driven to revolutionary methods to gain what is wanted. We ought not to expect perfection in our government certainly not when it is in the hands of the opposition, and certainly the opposition does not expect it of us when the power is in our hands. I dou'l know of any other method of perfecting our form of government govern-ment except through parties. One person becomes ineffective in any effort, and the only method fur success is through co-operation. We have come to believ that the best results come from having two major parties rather than a multiplicity of parties. We have always had two parties, under one name or another. We are not warranted in expecting perfection in parties, but we must pick out the principles which we believe are the best aud go with the parly which best represents them. The success of a President is more or Iras the success of the country, and unless the people give the President their support, the country will not be a success. |
