Show First Lead Mining and Smelting In Utah was Carried On in Beaver County The first, lead mining and smelting in Utah was carried on .ntbout tour miles northeast of Minersvllle, Heaver county. Isaac Grundy, Jesse N. Smith. Tnrleton Lewis and William Barton discovered dis-covered lead in this section in the fall of 1 8 r S . Later in the same year, specimens were shown to President llrigham Young who immediately became interested in the discovery. Heaver county was settled in 1S50, the first colony col-ony was established on the Beaver Beav-er river at the present site of Beaver. President Young directed direct-ed Issac Grundy and others to proceed to the site of their discovery, dis-covery, begin mining and also establish es-tablish an agricultural colony ' nearby. Minersvite was formally . settled on May IV. 1S59; Isaac Grundy was the first bishop and in charge of mining operations as well. To most of the old settlers the mine is known as the Rollin's mine, named for James Henry Rollins, the second bishop of Min-ersville, Min-ersville, appointed on April 2, 1S60. The Lincoln district, embracing em-bracing the Rollins mine, was organized or-ganized in 1SG1 and named in honor of President Abraham Lin-coin. Lin-coin.
