Show LETTERS TO THE EDITOR AS I SEE IT As I see it; 1959 has passed on, but not without a lot of blundering blunder-ing and hardships for most of the people. First we were afraid of a depression and lowered the interest rate. Next we were afraid of Inflation and raised the interest in-terest rate, and finally it came to pass that the only thing that was Inflated was money. Then we had many strikes to further demoralize the country and work a hardship on millions of workers. Our taxes went up and the cost of living went up except what the farmers and livestock men produced. Yet the agriculture department came out with a report that the Income of the farmer was up some 17 from a year ago. What the department de-partment of agriculture didn't mention was the fact that their cost of producing this Income was up 25. Through the department of agriculture ag-riculture and our Washington bureaucrts' free trade and giveaway give-away policy we are slowly eating eat-ing away our sweet land of Liberty. Lib-erty. Yes, we have sent overseas our big shots to make piece, which I think Is a grand thing if we can afford It; however, in my opinion we are bankrupting America and robbing America of its industry. Yes, we hear from Washington about I960 being a banner year of prosperity, with hogs down 7 to 10 cents a pound, lambs down 25, cattle off 25 or more and production costs going up. I Just wonder when the farmer and livestock men are going to go on a sit-down strike? Yes, it sure looks like the prosperity pros-perity of the farmer is going to boomerang. Of course, Benson will take care of us by increasing increas-ing the shipment of frozen lamb, bee, and hogs duty free. This Is about all the freedom that Is left. Sorry Rokkefeller withdrew. We need a businessman In Washington Wash-ington for a change. Clarence Lamoreaux I wish to thank the many dt-1 lzens who have contacted me with encouragement In regard to the Park N' Shop Story, These people feels that we are stating things that should have been brought up long ago, regarding the enforcement of the various city ordinances. I am very grateful, grate-ful, that we still have hundreds of people In our community that are Interested In fair law enforcement en-forcement We now have two new coun-cilmen. coun-cilmen. In my letters I refer only to the 1959 council. I have had many citizens ask me, how the city council could take the stand it is doing, after four different times their offi-clals offi-clals have given Park N Shop a permit to build. The ordinance states that If any citizen is in violation, the city officials must not give the citizen a permit to build until the violations are remedied. Yet four different Mmes we believed that we were obeying the law. We want to obey the law. But we cannot stand by and let the city council make the law a law of favor, and not one for all the people. Here is something to remember. remem-ber. The other 60 business houses who are in violation every bit as much as Park N' Shop seems to be, received a permit to build as we did They thought they were obeying the law, as we did. Now the city council, it seems, after discovering its own mistakes, which goes back even before 1953, has a summons issued to Park N' Shop to appear in district dis-trict court, and explain why we haven't been obeying the law. It appears to be unfortunate, that this same co.incil couldn't be forced to enter the same court and tell the judge why they haven't been enforcing the law on everyone since 1953. Forrest Hunter |
