Show Rams Open Season With Split in Two Games The Parowan High School basketball bas-ketball team ushered in the 1963-64 1963-64 basketball season last Friday and Saturday nights with games in the local gymnasium, and the high school team gaining a split in the two contests. On Friday night Coach Wade Anderson's team won a 65 to 50 victory over the Wolves of the En-terprise En-terprise High School, in a game which saw the Parowan coach use almost all of his squad members. The Ram starting lineup consisted con-sisted of Carl Bank, center; Mike Hyatt and Gary Slmkins, forwards, for-wards, Clint Bentley and Claude Jones at guard, and they immediately im-mediately ran up a big lead over the visiting Wolves who are in a rebuilding year with only one senior on the team. Parowan took a lead of 17 to 5 by the end of the first quarter and were on head 32 to 18 at halftime. In the second half Coach Anderson started to run in his squad members in various combinations in order to look them over, but the lead extended extend-ed to 49 to 23 and ended 65 to 50 when Barlow of the Wolves, led his team In a sharp rally. He scored 23 points for high point honors In the game. Four of the Ram players got in the double figures with Hy-at Hy-at getting 14, Banks 13, and Sim-kins Sim-kins and Wayne Robinson getting get-ting 10 each. Robinson got into to the game in the last half. Bentley got 6 and Jones got 5 as starters, while Billy Trimmer, who came irt later, talli1 7 points. In the junior varsity game, played prior to the main game the Parowan JVs scored another easy win over the visiting team, by a 23 to 8 score. The Saturday night game between be-tween the Parowan Rams and Hurricane Tigers failed to materialize mater-ialize due to a mix up in scheduling sched-uling dates. Therefore the Rir.is took on a strong alumni team which consisted of immediate past Parowan players and went down to defeat by a one-point margin in a game that was very close all the way. Sparking the alumni team twere Ron Smith, Dennis Lowder, Ken Bettridge, Ken Simklns, Robin Ro-bin Graff and Blaine Hyatt This week end schedule calls for visits to the Parowan gym of the Green River High School from Green River, Utah on Friday Fri-day night, and the first of the two annual games between the Parowan Rams and Cedar Red-men, Red-men, on Saturday night The varsity var-sity games on both nights will get under way at 8 p. m. |
