Show Funeral Services Honor Enoch Mortensen Enoch L. Mortensen, 90, longtime long-time resident of Parowan, who has been a resident of Salt Lake City for the past 19 years, died at a rest home there early Saturday Sat-urday morning following a long illness from causes Incident to age. Funeral services for Mr. Mortensen Mor-tensen were held at noon on Tuesday at the Larkin Mortuary chapel with Brother Riddle, a high priest of the Canyon Rim Ward of the LDS Church, of which Mr. Mortensen was a member, conducting. Speaker was Paul Van Wag-enen, Wag-enen, former bishop of the ward where the deceased resided, w Jt closing remarks by Mr. Riddle. Musical numbers consisted of a vocal duet "In the Garden" by Rex C. Ward and Inez Preece, and a vocal solo, "End of a Perfect Per-fect Day," by Verl E. Taylor, accompanied ac-companied by Arline Scott. The prayer at the mortuary was offered by Bishop Kent Mar-low. The invocation at the services serv-ices was by Douglas Morris, the benediction by Howard Latham and the grave In the Salt Lake City cemetery was dedicated by Verl Scott Pall bearers were six grandsons, grand-sons, Aubrey Lister, Carlyle Dalley, Dal-ley, Lyle Mortensen, Ron McMillan, McMil-lan, Charles Gove and Enrol Orton. Or-ton. Enoch Lafayette Mortensen was born In Parowan, Aug. 29, 1873, a son of Hans Peter and Louisa Hadden Mortensen, and was a resident of Parowan most ill his li.'e until moving to Salt Lake City. He married Cora Wimmer on Mar. 8, 1903 in Parowan Par-owan and that marriage was later la-ter solemnized In the St. George LDS Temple. His wife died July 20, 19-18. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Mortensen were called, with other residents of Parowan, to form a colony of LDS Church members, to make the trek to the Bighorn Basin in Wyoming Wy-oming as a colonization project and they helped settle Cowley. They later returned to Parowan where he engaged in farming and sheep raising. Surviving are three sons and seven daughter, Enoch Wimmer, Parowan, John Smith, Salt Lake City, Harold Wimmer, Bountiful; Mrs. Claude (Ruby) Orton, Paro wan;' Mrs. D. E. (Kay) Stanfield, Westminster, Colo.; Mrs. C. H. (Ann) Edwards, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. William (Lora) Gove, Mrs. A. E.v tMarian) McMillan, Mrs. Phyllis' Lister, and Miss Claudia Mortensen, Salt Lake City. Also surviving are 35 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren and In attendance at the funeral services from here were Mr. and Mrs. Wimmer Mortensen and son Jerry, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Orton, Or-ton, Mr. and Mrs. Verl E. Taylor and Mr and Mrs. David Orton. |
