Show Large Bridge In Uinta Canyon Being Completed A new trail bridge crossing the Uinta River near the mouth of Krebs Creek is being con-! con-! structed by employees of the I Ashley National Forest. According Accord-ing to Wm. D. Hurst, supervisor supervis-or of the forest, the bridge is of all-steel construction and will be 85 feet in length. , The steel for the bridge weighs IVi tons and is being transported to the bridge site over 4 miles of mountain trail j by pack horses. In addition to the steel, all rivets, bolts, concrete, con-crete, decking and reinforcement reinforce-ment steel must be transported to the bridge location by pack horse. Ranger George Walkup, of Whiterocks, has charge of transporting trans-porting the materials. He is using a pack string of eight horses and has four men assisting assist-ing him. Road Supervisor Ward Evans is in charge of the bridge construction work. The old bridge crossing-' the Uinta River near Krebs Creek was constructed in 1926 by Ranger Ran-ger Walkup. It is still in place and being used, although its principal timbers are rotten and dangerous Ranger Walkup reports re-ports that he and his helper worked most of the summer of 1925 constructing this bridge. The new bridge will be of modern design and will serve for at least 35 years. |
