At the end of the first month of school, the personnel of West Bountiful Elementary can be proud of the groundwork ground-work done for a terrific school year. rTHE MONTH started off with a whole w eek devoted to school spirit. Under the direction direc-tion of Joan Littlefield, students, stu-dents, teachers, and office staff participated in Bronco Week, Sept. 7-10. " The members of the PTA began be-gan the week Tusday by presenting pre-senting kits in each of the classrooms. clas-srooms. These kits described the events to take place on the remaining three days. i WEDNESDAY, students participated in a drawing contest. con-test. Each student drew his or her idea of a Bronco. Each one was then presented with a green sucker for their participation. partici-pation. Thursday, the school turned into a Western Ranch as students, teachers, and Mr. Hallows, school principal, arrived ar-rived in western attire, complete com-plete with cowboy boots, ten gallon hats, and even a few hol-stered hol-stered guns. At the two assemblies held Thursday morning, one student from each class was awarded a prize for the best drawing of a Bronco. A new school flag, designed and made by Jolene Johnson was presented to the school studentbody. Connie Ward then taught the students and teachers the school song. The song was written by students attending the school in 1974. It had not been used for some years. The week ended on Friday Fri-day by everyone wearing the school colors, green and white. Again the PTA presented pre-sented treats to all students participating. AFTER THE week devoted to school spirit, the rest of the month went smoothly. Included In-cluded in the events was the choosing of room representatives. representa-tives. These people used to be called room mothers. However, Howev-er, with more fathers and grandparents participating, the name has been changed. Kathy Dangerfield was in charge of sending notes home asking parents to become involved. in-volved. After the responses had been reviewed and a selection made for each classroom, Kathy Dangerfield and Cathy Salisbury gave a room representative's repre-sentative's tea. At the tea on Sept. 23, the room representatives representa-tives were able to meet with the teacher and the other representatives rep-resentatives from their room to plan an agenda for the school year parties. THROUGHOUT, the month, teachers and the PTA, represented by Alice DeWaal, worked hard to line up parents, grandparents, and other community com-munity members for volunteer work at the school. This work includes helping with the students stu-dents on a one to one basis, or helping the teachers do busy work to free them to work one on one with the students. |
