Show Layton Chamber Awaits Governor .... v.. , s 1 LAYTON - Gov. Scott Matheson will address members mem-bers of the Layton Chamber of Commerce at the organization's organiza-tion's monthly luncheon, Oct. 7, at noon in the Banquet room of the Oakridge Country Club in Farmington. Matheson, a popular governor who bucked the 1980 Republican landslide to become be-come a two-term chief executive execu-tive and the recognized leader of the state's Democratic Party, Par-ty, was born in Chicago, 111., but was raised in rural southern south-ern Utah. After graduating from the University of Utah in the mid-1 950' s to serve as a deputy county attorney. He later la-ter began a long career as a corporate attorney for Union Pacific Railroad and Anaconda Anacon-da Copper before deciding to seek the governor's office following fol-lowing the retirement of a fel-Iow fel-Iow Democrat, Calvin Rampton. GOV. MATHESON has presided over the state at a time when federal policies called cal-led for increased energy production. pro-duction.
