Tlio laying of the cables will .tako at least two weeks, while the splicing and connecting will take a great deal mero time. Tho cables are being laid in the business district of tho city. On Main street twelve cables are ' being laid. Each cable contains two wires. On the side .streets and West Temple and State street fewer and lighter cables aro being be-ing laid. The cables are about cie and a half inches in diameter. They havo a lead casing from one-eighth " lo one-quarter one-quarter of an inch thick. When the poles of tho "Utah Light & Railway company havo been removed, only the telegraph poles of the Western Union companv will remain in the streets. Already the underground ducts have been prepared for cables for tlio telegraph wires, hence it will not be long before these poles aro also removed, re-moved, Tho telegraph company is now waiting for cables ordered sonic time since, but not yet delivered. |
