Show WORD RECEIVED OF DEATH OF GEO. SAMESHIMA Japanese-American Oives Life For Country In Italy Springville lost a good citizen and an ardent booster when George Sameshima, Japanese-American, lost his life while serving in the armed forces of the United States in Italy, July 17. Word of his death came recently recent-ly to W. R. Eddington, for whom he worked just prior to going into the service, and in a letter to Mr. Eddington dated just two days before he was killed he stated that after the war, he wanted to return re-turn to Springville where he felt he had more friends than anywhere any-where else in the .world. Pvt. Sameshima came to Springville Spring-ville from southern California early ear-ly in 1942, before the Japanese were evacuated from that state. He enlisted in the army about a year ago, and had been overseas since February. Before going into the service, he worked for the W. R. Eddington Canning company. com-pany. He served with a company of Japanese-Americans in Italy who won a reputation for themselves by fighting against every odd to show their loyal support of this country. Pvt. Sameshima made many friends in Springville and his death will be mourned by all who knew him. Before going overseas, he called at the Herald office to see about subscribing to the Springville Herald and it was being sent him as a gift from the Springville Junior Chamber. |
