Show LARGE NUMBER OF WORKMEN WERE PLACED IN JULY Placements for the month of July were 1,854 according to W. L. Mildenhall, manager of the local lo-cal U. S. Employment Service. "Most of these workers were directed di-rected to highly essential activities activi-ties and approximately 1,500 wer workers having relatively little or no skill," Mr. Mildenhall said. He stated that 627 women were included in the above placement figures of which 538 were unskilled unskill-ed and represented placements in the various canning companies in Utah county. A total of 21 veterans veter-ans were placed, three of World War I and -18 of World War II, and all but one were hired in essential es-sential industry. Six were hospital discharges and two of these six returned to their pre-war employment. employ-ment. "Industry, generally speaking, is favorable to the employment of veterans, and there is plenty of opportunity for their referral as soon as they show their willingness willing-ness to return to private employment. employ-ment. Orders on file in the local office show the greatest demand is for unskilled male workers in the larger industrial plants," Mr. Mildenhall said, "and the willingness willing-ness of male workers to go into highly essential work is borne out by the fact that of the total number num-ber hired, practically all were sent to essential industry. Workers are rapidly becoming, aware of the necessity ne-cessity of their accepting employment employ-ment on jobs with high priority which is the prime purpose of the priority referral program which has been in effect nationally since July 1st. |
