Art Bird Spends Few Days At Home Art Bird, son of Mrs. Myrtle Bird, has spent a few days' furlough fur-lough with his mother and other relatives and friends here. Larry Bird that he is now in Harvard, Nebr., with the Army Air Forces. He says he would enjoy the cool mountain breeze (he doesnt know how hot it is here, too) around Springville and Mapleton, and have a drink of the deilicious cold water. Harold V. Gividen Is .Commissioned Aviation Cadet Harold V. Givi-den, Givi-den, son of Mr. and Mrs. James V. Gividen, of Mapleton, graduated from the AAF Pilot school at Fort Sumner, New Mexico, on Friday as a member of the class 44 G. He received his commission of second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps and is now entitled to wear the silver wings of a flying officer. Lt. Gividen has been visiting his parents and other relatives and friends here and at Mapleton and expects to leave about next Monday Mon-day for Yuma, Ariz. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in May or 1943 and subsequently subse-quently trained at Kearns, Washington Wash-ington State College, Pullman, Wash., at Santa Rosa, Cal., Tulare, Cal., and at Marina, Ariz., before going to Fort Sumner. Florida. Gene Averett Is Home On Furlough Gene Averett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ruel Averett, is home on a two-weeks' furlough. He is stationed sta-tioned at Camp Swift, Texas and is to report back Aug. 21. Sailor Appreciates Home Town Paper Just a few lines to let you know that I received your most welcome paper today and it sure was good to read something about one's home town once more. I know thfi rest of the boys feel the same way I do and we all thank you. Just a few more lines to say that I hope that Springville won in the Bond drive with Spanish Fork. Brailsford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Brailsford, is spending spend-ing a ten-day leave with relatives and friends in Springville. He is stationed at Key Port, Wash. During his stay here he called at the Herald office to express his thanks to the Junior Chamber of Commerce for his subscription to the paper. Marine Makes Short Visit Russell Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Clark, visited one day this week with his parents and other relatives and friends here. He has been stationed at Bocachi-ta, Bocachi-ta, Fla., and left Tuesday for another an-other station. He was recently promoted pro-moted to Staff Sergeant in the Marines. Local Man Is Transferred Ronda Jenkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Jenkins of this city, has been transferred to Edgewood, Mother Gets Gift From Son Far Away Mrs. D. O. Ashcraf t is the proud recipient of a beautiful rug sent to her for her birthday from her son, Ruel. He said he purchased the rug while on a furlough in Australia Aus-tralia from New Guinea. He further fur-ther commented that he would liked to have kept coming when he started for Australia, but it was nice to associate with white people again. It was his first furlough fur-lough since joining the Air Corps nearly two years ago. Upon his return to New Guinea, he was promoted to sergeant and he stated stat-ed that his outfit had moved on short notice to a place recently taken from the Japs. Ruel sent his appreciation for the Herald, stating that even if it was sometimes old, it was much appreciated. He said he was going go-ing to look up some Springville boys, that he had never seen anyone any-one he knew or an L. D. S. person since leaving for overseas. Service Son And Daughter Visit Parents Robert Barron, stationed at Camp Blanding, Fla., and Mrs. Dorothy B. Switzer, Air WAC stationed sta-tioned at Alliance, Nebr., son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Barron, visited over the week-end week-end with their parents in Springville Spring-ville and also spent a short time tvith relatives at Logan. While |
