Show Moab Meets Hurricane In Friday Contest It mav appear to be mid summer, hut Utah high schools will officially make it fall Friday, as they open the 1976 gird season. For the Moab Red Devils the opener means a long journey across the state to meet the Tigers of Hurricane, a new member of Region Seven. By the time the region season is over Moab will have traveled 2,200 miles in the quest for a region crown. This is the first football game ever played between the two schools and no one has any prediction. The teams played one common opponent last year, Millard, and Moab barely edged the Eagles while Hurricane lost to them. ' Moab will start a fairly experienced team, but some of that experience came at different positions than the players will be at this year. An example is quarterback Jeff Meador who was used primarily as an end last year, but will be at quarterback this season. The Devils are fairly deep though small in the backfield, but the line is very shallow and comparatively untested. Veteran end Mike Zimmerman will be slowed by an ankle injury, but Moab will be otherwise healthy. Game time at Hurricane is 8 p.m. |
