Show Promotion for BLM Ranaer Announced bv Area Office Becky Blackburn, a ranger in ; the Bureau of Land Mange-ment's Mange-ment's archaeological protection protec-tion program, was recently promoted to the level of GSr5, according to an announcement by Lester P. Sweeney, San Juan Resource Area Manager in BLM's Moab District. The promotion was accomplished under provisions of the Bureau's Bur-eau's Merit Promotion Program. Pro-gram. Becky is presently recovering recover-ing from severe back injuries received in a helicopter crash March 14 while on a patrol of BLM archaeological sites. After spending 2'j months in hospitals in Monticello and Durango, she is now up and around, although she is in a back brace and her activities are very limited. Becky won the hearts of the medical staff of Mercy Hospital Hospi-tal in Durango during her stay there. An article in the hospital's newspaper states, "The individual in room 2230 is no ordinary patient; she is an exceptional patient. She is warm, exciting, friendly and a bit on the playful side. She is a model patient who inspires those around her, as her accepting attitude and cooperative coop-erative actions have proven that immobility does not need to create a negative response. She has demonstrated that her immobility is not a roadblock to recovery, but rather a stepping stone to a newer and brighter future." Congratulations on Becky's promotion were extended by Associate State Director William Wil-liam B. Leavell; her co-workers, too, are proud of her and look forward to the day when she can resume her ranger duties. Becky and her husband, Fred, reside, at BLM's ranger station at Kane Gulch at the head of Grand Gulch in southern San Juan County. |
