Show Public Hearings Set on Public Land Withdrawals The Utah Geological and Mineral Survey has received word from the U.S. Department Depart-ment of Interior that Salt Lake City is chosen as one of two cities where a public hearing will be held for a discussion of Federal Land Withdrawals from Mineral Entry. Hearings are to be held in the Salt Palace September 8 and 9, and in Washington, D.C., September 15 and 16. Carlton Stowe, minerals specialist for the Utah Geological Geolog-ical and Mineral Survey, notes that people wishing to give testimony on policies and procedures related to land withdrawals or regulations that restrict access to Federal lands for exploration and mining, may contact: Dennis Sachs, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Sec-retary, Land and Water Division, Department of Interior, Inter-ior, Interior Building, Washington, Wash-ington, D. C. The Utah federal land withdrawal picture was recently recent-ly presented in a fact-finding article by Mr. Stowe which appeared in the Survey's "Survey Notes" February, 1976. Earlier attention was also focused on the situation by Mr. Stowe which brought national attention to the withdrawals. Federal government govern-ment lands in Utah total 35 million acres of 66.6 percent of the state. |
