Milt had been out I here just once, helping a Mend move some equipment, ind he liked the place. He teat home to Iowa and brought the family out to stay. Very little has changed at Milt's since that first opening I Ubor Day in 1954. One still indsthe food served the same wiy, Milt stated, "We try to ? maintain the same quality and . time size portion we've ihvays served." But its more than good food tint brings people to Milts. A certain charm exists there, iroond the quality over quantity quan-tity philosophy. The Stop and Eat is open fam 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day except Monday. Milt and Audrey do the cooking and hive three girls, Cherie Bisco, JiP Krist and .Shelly. Horton helping out. When asked if Milt had any plans for expansion he said, "No we couldn't take care of it, and then it wouldn't be ( Milts." Milt's is one of the oldest businesses in Moab and still has many original customers. "We rely on local business and are pretty steady all year," and also the townspeople towns-people send a lot of customers up." Milt described his clientele from hippies to millionaires and said, "I fix the food the way I like it, and try to serve it the way people like it to be served." Milt has never taken a . customer count or kept track of the number of hamburgers he's sold. He said the Chile Cheeseburger is probably the biggest saler. Milt and Audrey have two daughers, Janet and Diane. along with others who have heard about the place; traveling men and some who just plain got lost and ended up on south Fourth East. "Customers have helped raise our daughters," Milt said. Janet has graduated from Utah State and will be teaching school in Las Vegas. Diane will also finish up at Utah State this year with a teaching certificate. |
