Show n Fit' Mtt- - The Moab City Council Tuesday evening levied a hefty license fee for transient merchants and made an addition putting more teeth into the dog ordinance. The add'km wade to the ordinance dealing with business licenses now requires transient merchants to pay a minimum of $500 yearly to do business in the city. The merchant must first make application for a license, paying a $10 non-refundable fee, then appear at a regular meeting of the City Council where the application will be considered and a fee set. The license fee must be paid 24 hours before business is commenced here, and a transient merchant will be required to pay 'a per cent of gross sales in city sales tax quarterly. However, anyone selling goods on the property of a licensed business in Moab will not be required to. obtain a Moab business license. The addition to the dog ordinance requires that no dog may be permitted to go or be on any school premises or grounds or public parks or recreational grounds at any time. Under the ordinance the animal control officer will have legal grounds to issue complaints to offending individuals. Purchase Wells The budget in the water and sewer system in the city was studied in light of necessary capital expenditures during the coming year. An agreement was made to purchase the Ron and Joyce Robertson well at $50,000, payable at $10,000 yearly for 5 years. Also the Corbin well will be purchased at a cost of $61,000, with additional expenses of about $60,000 necessary for pipeline to put the well on the city system. The city estimates $201,000 in revenues and $167,950 in cash expenses in the coming year. On an acrual accounting system, revenues would be the same however expenses are estimated at $219,950. This figure includes $52,000 in depreciation costs and reflects an $18,950 acrual loss. With capital expenditures of about $207,000 estimated for the coming year, the city will have in reserve about $175,000 plus $33,000 anticipated profit from the year's operation. This amounts to $208,000 cash available, which after deducting $13,000 in bond payments, will give a net of $195,000 to spend on the needed improvements to the system. Rate Increase In light of these figures, the City Council has announced it will consider a rate increase for water and sewer services by Jan. 1, 1977, to make up the $12,000 needed for capital improvements and still Continued Page A6 City council Cracks Down . . ' Continued From Page Al leave a cash reserve tor emergencies. This will be the first rate increase on water and sewer services in Moab City since 1962. Currently minimum charges for water within the city are $2.50 per month for 2,000 gallons or less, plus 22c per month for each added thousand gallons of water used. Sewer charges are now $3 per family unit per month. In other business the city approved a new policy regarding the city yard, to go into effect Sept. 1. The city yard will open f at 8 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will be closed weekends and holidays. Those persons needing access to the yard for water and the use of the scales should arrange their schedule to meet these business hours.
