This question has never been bef to t!ie c urts and it has not be-n s o d. elded. The papers put this b fire the people in a wrung light; and lately there was a piece in the Sail Lake lItllAI.Ii, headed 'another attempt at-tempt at outrage,' and referred to my polos to Washington to endeavor en-deavor to procure means through Coiieress, to run tlu-e courts in opposition oppo-sition to the people. Ihese are not the facts. I have been to Washington Washing-ton to end-avor to raise money to pay jurors, and made an unsuccessful trip. I went for money to ray jurors who have served the people and should have their pay. It was for this pur pose they have served the courts, as men and j;jod citizens, and their services ser-vices are very essential among the people. peo-ple. This Court has been resjiee ed, and with your help it shall continue to be. In your deliberations voj will consider con-sider offenses again.-t the United States, for which you will be paid, and should I de'ain you a few days on Territorial business, it may be without pay; but I Weill I advise you on receiving your certitieate from the clerk, to put your accounts together and employ cn attorney at-torney to collect your pay for you. T want you to have your pay, and do not care whether the Government, Territory Terri-tory or the man in the moon pays you, so that you get it. And we shall do all in our power to pay you. It is true ihatjJudge Meivean discharged his jury, not wishing to keep men from their work without pay; but these newspaper reports are not true. Your lirst duties wiil be to investiture investi-ture into matters pertaining to the United States, such as violation of the common laws, post office laws, etc. You will have the assistance of the United States Attorney, after which you will direct your attention to Territorial matters, sueh as murder, arson, robbery, Ate., and I will call your attention to a case reported, wherein two men were arrested in Juab county, and while in custody attempted to escape and were followed and killed. I am informed these are not the facts. You will inquire into this ; also a case of castration somewhere in Fillmore or other part of the district. Some of the citizens have made mo acquainted-with acquainted-with matters that I will call your attention at-tention to. While east I had a personal interview inter-view with President Grant, and in ( speaking about this people he expressed ex-pressed the kindest feelings towards them. In the conversation he said you should be protected in your duties as jurors, he did not care if you were Mormons. We have no prejudice against Mormons, and this feeling is dying out among the masses. of the people of the United States, and is only held to by a few crazy persons: per-sons: but sensible 1 menjfeelj that Mor-mouism Mor-mouism had rights as much so as other isms. I am glad to see this. There is no reason why one denomination denomina-tion should be held to account and others not. We desire to give every man his rights and protection, ard to punish the unruly only. Ye desire to make our courts respected on their merits. The clerk wiil now administer the oath, and you wiil retire to deliberate. ou will appoint one of your number as clerk, and will meet and adjourn from time to time, as your duties may require. The clerk administered the oath to the foreman, afterwards to the jury, and they retired to the jury room. The Judge said : "Wi will now attend at-tend to the naturalization of aliens. If there are any present who desire their natura ization papers they wiil please come forward.' Some fifty arose and twenty-three were admitted. At 1J m. Court adjjurned tili 2 p.m. At 2 p. ai. the Court resumed its seS. sion. and admitted some forty or fifty .aliens. It then adjourned tid 10 a. in. to-day. sr.coxr wspatch. Trove. 3. even:;:;.
