Show H Liquor Law Violations. M One only needs to read the liquor ordinance H passed by tho city council last Monday, which ap- H pears in this issue of Tho Kecord, to understand H that the council is in earnest about the enforce- M ment of the law prohibiting the illicit sale of in- H toxlcating liquors. B The various officials charged with tho enforce- B ment of tho law are unanimous in their statements m that the law is being flagrantly violated in this H city, and that they proposo to leavo nothing un- m done to bring the offenders to account. H Oironscs of this character are among the most B difficult to prosecute, it being next' to impossible m to securo sufficient ovidonco to convict. It is for H this reason that many complain about the inoffect- l iveness of prohibitory laws. B Howovor, prohibitory laws may be onforced M j and convicitons secured if tho officers charged with j' their enforcement are conscientious and anxious M to do their duty at all times. Fortunately for this B city, its officers believe in tho enforcement of law, M and as a consequence convictions are, and will m continuo to bo, secured for unlawful selling of in, m toxicants. m - At tho election hold for tho purposo of aacor- H, taining tho will of tho people of this community M on tho quesiton, only about thirty-five votes were H. cast in favor of legalized liquor soiling. In view Bl of the undisputed expression of public sentiment B against the salo of liquor, a few individuals should Hj not bo permitted to thwart tho will of the -great B i majority, but oifendors should bo watched and B i brought to juatico promptly. |
