Show A1ANY HISTORIC EXHIBITS AT EXPOSITION. San Francisco, June 12: Word was received by the Panama-Pacific International ExDOsition that the three Caravels, the San,-ta San,-ta Maria, the Pinta and Nina, which were features of the Columbian Co-lumbian Exposition of Chicago in 1893 and which have been in the Lake at Jackson Tark, Cni-cago Cni-cago are to be repaired and brought to San Francisco by the Knights of Columbus of this country. The Santa Maria is an exact reproduction of the old Spanish vessel which carried Columbus on his tour ot discovery in 1492 and in constructing it the plans that are perserved in the Spanish Span-ish archives were followed. On their arrival in this city they will be placed in the Yacht Harbor Har-bor which will be one of the in teresting features of the World's Fair. The hotel men of San Francisco Francis-co have pledged themselves to raise one hundred thousand dol lars in addition to the one hundred hun-dred and fifty thousand dollars they have already subscribed in aid of the 1915 World's Fair. San Francisco hai twelve hundred and thirty seven hotels with sixty six-ty thousand rooms. Ninety per cent of the hotels are less than four years old and are modern in every respect. Before 1915 the list of hotels and apartment houses will be increased materially. materi-ally. It is the intention of the Greeks of this country to reproduce repro-duce in white marble on Telegraph Tele-graph Hill, which overlooks San Francisco Bay and is adjacent to the Exposition site, the famous Parthenon of Athens. Steps with this in view have already been taken by Consul General Richard de Fonatna of Greece and he is receiving the co-operation of the Exploitation Department Depart-ment of the Exposition. Consul-General Consul-General Fontana has cabled King George of Greece for permission to carry out the plan and is confident con-fident that the Greeks of this country and Europe will donate sums of money to bring about the building of this magnificent structure, - |
