Show COL -LOOSE; It lias been rumored that Col. Ed. Loose Intends to refuse his appointment appoint-ment as a trustee of tho Agricultural College. Friends hero who have remembered re-membered tho splendid way in which he supported the Agricultural College Col-lege In tho legislative tight, two years ago hope that tho .rumor is without foundation, especially so slnco W. W. Itltcr has resigned from the board. Whatever may have been tho feeling as to Mr. Ulter being named as a member of both University and College Col-lege boards, it Is universally considered consider-ed that ho Is an able man, one of the State's really big men, and his retirement, retire-ment, with that of Mr. Loose, would leave ;he board an extremely mediocre proposition with few or nono to do It honor except from tho lips outward. Mr. Loose Is not famed for his educational educa-tional acquisitions, but he is at least a state quantity, a good, solid man with Ideas of his own and the disposition dispo-sition and strength to stand for what he believes to bo right. In those respects re-spects he would be a unique figure on the board and even though sadly handicapped by tho present membership member-ship might be able to accomplish considerable con-siderable good for the college in the future, as ho unquestionably has In the past. Should ho resign, the Govenor would have tho opportunity to dig up twd inslgnlDcants Instead of one and for the Governor's sake. Col. Loose should stay on the board and save him from himself and the State from further humllatlon. Mr. Loose's Indisposition to servo tho college Is said to bo due, at least In a measure, to the fact that tho conjoint A. C. and Land Hoards located the Utah County Experiment Station at Lehi rather than Provo, an extremely poor return for his own service to the college a shoit tlmo before. However1 the old board Is gone and after all Mr. L:osccan not well" hold the action of a few men against the college Itself, an Institution that Is and should be kept, a distinct honor .and credit to tho State of Utah. While some foiot the Cjloncl's service, others have not, i and these, believing him big enough1. to consider State good rather than personal feeling, would be glad to sec him remain on tho board. i |
