Show A series of camps for social education edu-cation are being set up in the state of Madhya Pradeah, India, to help the government's campaign against adult illiteracy. The Minister of Education has appealed for 10,000 volunteers from the faculty staffs and student bodies of schools, colleges and other educational institutions in-stitutions to help organize classes in the camps. Volunteers will receive re-ceive a reward for each adult they teach who passes the final examination. Publisher Named On University Of Utah Faculty The development of the nation's weeklies and smallest dailies might well be the responsibility of schools and departments of journalism. This is the opinion of M. Neff Smart, who has just been named to the staff of the Journalism department de-partment at the University of Utah. The. appointment of Mr. Smart is announced by Quintus C. Wilson, Wil-son, head of the department. Mr. Smart is publisher of the Orem-Geneva Orem-Geneva Times, secretary of the Utah State Press Assn., and chairman chair-man of the Education Committee of the State Press Assn. In his announcement, Professor Wilson stated that Mr. Smart will direct a new type of journalistic community service. His services are offered to high school journalism journal-ism teachers and publications advisers ad-visers in working out their problems. prob-lems. He will assist the teachers in obtaining the cooperation of the weekly editors throughout the state of Utah in the printing of high school publications. This service ser-vice is aimed at a better cooperation coopera-tion between editors and journal-ims journal-ims teachers. Mr. Smart in accepting the appointment ap-pointment said that schools and departments de-partments of journalism can serve the cause of freedom and democracy democ-racy by pointing up to students the need for production and expression of ideas. |
