Last vear she had the visiting teacher, 'but now she is coming half of each dav and soon hopes to be able to come for a full day at a time. Some birthdays of the past few days are Michael Jones, Mary Ann Robbins. Linda Dalebout, Cheryl Marshall. Susanne Taylor brought her pet parakeet for the enjoyment of Mrs Pope's room last week. Mrs. Anderson's students have also brought two turtles which are now guests in the room. One is a box turtle and the other is a desert turtle. , ... We are sharing our school with the Eleventh and Sixth wards of the LDS church until they can get a church built. In general we get along well together. They do not come when we are here. We push, our desks back for the weekend and they use chairs in the front of each room. Brookside Reports School Activities Editor's Note The Springville Herald appreciates news from the schools and is happy to publish the first stories of the year from Brookside. We believe that several hundred parents and friends will read and enjoy these items tins and every other week. An invitation invita-tion is given principals and teachers teach-ers in all other schools to submit news from their grades and schools each week. A sample of the kind of news which the Springville Herald Her-ald appreciates is seen in the Brookside stories. Students who bring the news stories each week are shown about the printing shops and gain first hand information on how a newspaper as well as books and magazines are printed. Judy Peterson and Mary K. Lawrence, reporters. Well, here we are back to report re-port our school news. A lot of things have happened to us since school let out last spring. We have some new teachers for one thing. Mrs. Wanda Pope is teaching in one second grade. She lived m Arizona until she came to BYU to school. Last June she married Ray Pope, who was from Idaho. Now they are living in Springville, and Mr. Pope is finishing at the BYU Mrs. Lynn Mason is our kindergarten teacher. She lived in McGill, Nevada, until she came to BYU to school. Last June she married Bert Ma.on. from Snnnc-ville. Snnnc-ville. After teaching in the district last year Mr. Mason is back at BYU working for a higher degree de-gree Mrs. Priscella LeRoy was transferred from the Grant to teach our other second grade. We also have a new lunch superviser this year, Mrs. Rowena McClam. Our enrollment is just a bit higher than last year. Last year our school promoted or retained 308 students. This week we have 313 students. Enrollments m the various groups range from 28 to 37- , , Friel's store gave our school several fine 12 inch phonograph records last week. These records are mainly classical and are from the best orchestras, and from the world's great singers. We are sure that we will get a lot of pleasure out of these dozens of records. During the past week many of our students have been to the state fair. Several of them saw the Ice Follies, as well as the many products of Utah and Utah people which were displayed. We have two new tether balls at school, so now three groups can play this game at one time. It is the most popular game at school as dozens of children wait in each line for turns to play. We got a new cotton rope in our flag pole this week to replace the slivery old cable one which has torn so many of our hands in the past season. Mr. Frandsen and Terry Frost put it up on the pole. Little Saundra Nielsen has come to our school in the second grade. She had not previously been in a |
