Show WORK STARTS -ON "MARION HOTEL John G. Ellis Awarded tho Contract For the Lareg Structure, Which is to Have a Frontage of 132 Feet oa Lincoln Avenue and 07 Feet on Twenty-Afth Street. "The Marion" will bo the next largo iiotcl and business house to bo erected erect-ed In Ogden, to bo completed not' hit. er than March 1st, 101 1. The structure struc-ture Is being erected on Lincoln avenue ave-nue and Twenty-filth street by Stato Treasurer David Mattson, uud will cost when completed in tho neighborhood neighbor-hood of $.sr,ooo. It will be called "Marlon" because, baby Marlon, a bright-eyed little girl of the Mattson family, was born on the day Mr. Matteon signed the papers pa-pers for a 100-year lease on the ground upon which tho house is being built. Ground was broken for the basement base-ment of this building a few months figo, and the excavation, was com-I com-I leted. but because of an inability to make suitable terma for the construction construc-tion of the place, and not being fully decided as to what kind of house It build, nothing further' was done until this morning, when Contractors Doylo and Bateman began clearing away tne debris that had accumulated around the promises from the former work on the basement, preparatory to laying the cement for the underground under-ground of the big structure. The plans have all been perfected ;nd the contract for the erection of the Marion has been let to John (;. mis of this city and the work or completing the basement commenced. The contractor states that there will be no delay in the building operations rnd It is Hilly expected that the building build-ing will be ready for occupancy before be-fore March 1st, next year, the time fixed lor Us completion. Tho building will he made of press. .-J brick, three stories high, having a frontage of 132 feet on Lincoln .-venue and 07 feet on Twenty-fifth street. The two upper floors will contain Hi) rooms for a hotel, white the ground floor will bo used for. business busi-ness purposes, and the basement will be a modern cafe. From the second floor tho building v.ill be in three dintlnct compartments, compart-ments, the alley ways between them to be 1- feet wide. This plan makes It possible for all tho rooms of tho building to be "outside" rooms. Each room will contain a bath. There will :-lso be four public baths In the building. build-ing. 1 The hotel place will be modern In every particular, says Mr. Mattson, and will compare favorably with some of the best hotels of ho western country. Architect J. C. Craig, who drew the plans for the beautiful Senile, Seni-le, h hotel of Salt Ijake, has the architectural ar-chitectural work of the building In land and an expert builder will be Kept constantly on the ground to see that the plans are followed to the letter. Mr. Mattson states that already h; has applications for nearly all the Mailable store space of the building and he says he thinks there is no question but that Ogden is large enough to support the balance of tho I ulldlng as an up-to-date hostelry. Rooms are scarce In the city at thi time and Ogdcn's Increase In population, popu-lation, as marked by the recent census cen-sus enumeration, together with th? splendid building and business growth or the city, indicate that the building of the Marlon Is timely. |
