Show UT0 WRECKS HOUSE ID INJURES CHILD Machine Driven by Inexperienced Inexperi-enced Man Plunges -Over Embankment. Special to The Tribune. OGDEN", Aug. 34. Plunging over an embankment after the driver had lost control of the machine, a large tour-iug tour-iug car belonging to David Eccles crashed through the eight-inch brick wall of Paul Kemmeyer'a home at 719 Twenty-seventh street this afternoon, and injured Jennie Kemnieyer, a three-year-old child, so seriously that death may result. The child was on the front porch and barely escaped instant death when the big auto crashed down from almost directly above it. Ray Crites, who was driving the car, escaped uninjured, allhough he remained at the wheel until the auto came to a ston with the front wheels and a portion of the hood projecting into the parlor of the Jvcmmeyer home. It is thought, that Ibe btfle girl was knocked to one Bide- by tho front wheel of the car. but there is a possibility that one of tho wheels passed ovor her body. Tho victim suslained internal injuries, the extent of which cannot be definitely ascertained uulil twentv-four twentv-four or forty ' ight. hours have elapsed. He is not. an experienced experi-enced driver, but. decided to test his ability as a chauffeur. TTo hnd driven the car lew than two blocks when he became confused in going down a hill, and the machine swerved toward the sidewalk There is no protecting wall in front of the Kemnieyer home, a small brick cottage, and before he could apply the brakes, the auto dropped down a four-foot four-foot embankment and plunged across the narrow porch on which tho child was playing. The car did not stop until the spring fender and front wheels hnd carried away a largo section of the wall, wrecking several pieces of furniture iu the front room of the bouse. Tho automobile was not badly damaged, the- fenders being broken and one tiro punctured. |
