Show why men HAS GONE UPTHE SCALE Increased Earnings Mean the Dividends Soon Will Be Increased. The Ronton Financial News says that It Ik the opinion of some of the traders who watch the speculation closely that ;here haa heen a quiet, but steady accumulation accum-ulation of Anuconda recently and this buy-lug buy-lug Is taken to forecast an increase In the dividend rate at the next declaration. The last dividend waa declared on June 26. ho that no action ift looked for until late In September, when a quarterly payment pay-ment of 7" cents per shade Is looked for, igalnst the 60-oent rate thai haa been maintained since 190S. Anaconda's dividend divi-dend record has heen as follows: 1000 ?4.00!li06 .J4.87J 1001 .1.25llt7 ((.SO 1903 1.00 0108 : 00 1903 1 .0011900 2 00 1904 l.OOllOlO a.oo 1905 1.00U9H 2.00 It is believed that the Anaconda rate would have been Increased before this except that, the directors wished to add to the treasury surplus, especially as the earnings In 1911 were short of the dividends divi-dends paid by a few hundred thousand dollars. The company has been adding to the surplus heavily this year, however, how-ever, as the dividend requirements of 50 cents per quarter have been far lees than the earnings. Tt ts esrlmntoH that on an rmtr.nt of about .'00.000.000 pounds of copper the Anaconda Is earning well In excess of $5 per share on Its stock, which would mean a yearly addition to the surplus of some $13.000 000 If the earning were continued ns at present and the dividend divi-dend was held down to the J2 rate. An Increase In the dividend rate to a basis would mean dividend requirements require-ments of about ?13.00,000, as compared with earnings at the rate of better than ?22 000,000, so that the conservatism of such action could not he questioned.
