Show PHS Hoopsters Ready For Game Basketball fever at Preston high school and in schools of other southeastern Idaho communities with whom the Indians will be playing play-ing is steadily mounting as hoop practices, officials' examinations and meetings to draw a district schedule are being planned. The hoop season will officially begin after December 1. In Mc-Cammou Mc-Cammou on that night officials and coaches of the Fifth District Athletic association will meet to draw up the schedule for southeastern south-eastern Idaho teams. The meet will be preceded by a banquet. Among those from Preston to be in attendance will be Principal W. II. Simmons and Coach Joe Johnson. Activity for the lndiaus begins December 5 in an encounter with the Logan high school to be played play-ed here. Coach Johnson states that he is anticipating a "bright and interesting basketball season. Since the ending of he football .season Coach Johnson has devoted liiniself to making .close observances observ-ances of the various class teams that have been in action in the high school gym. Six teams have conducted inter-play games with each other and from their performance per-formance Mr. Johnson will Judgo those worthy of a place on the main squad. Serving as officials in these round-robin play-offs have been Blaine Lemmon, Duanc IJobbs, Blaine Taylor, Bill Johnson and Keith Neeley. These five boys are all experienced hoopsmen, having earned their letter in basketball bas-ketball last year. Their place on the Preston High 1941-42 hoop squad is more or less assured. Three important examinations for basketball officials have been conducted in this district during v the first three days of this week. Weston, Franklin and Preston prospective officials attended the one at Downey which was eon- v ducted by Principal W. H. Mr. Simmons lias reported that this is the third year such examinations exam-inations have been given. He added add-ed that requirements are geting "stiller all the time." In previous times an official could officiate by merely "paying his dollar," but this is all changed now. Each man must pass with a grade of 75 per cent or more in order to officiate in the games this year. f |
