Show KEN SMITH CADET IN ARMY' AIR CORPS Tt has been reported to this office of-fice from Kelly Field, Texas, that! Kenneth A. Smith, 24 son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul K. Smith, Preston js now a member of the first class of cadets in the new Air Corps Replacement Re-placement Center (Aircrew) at Kelly Field, Texas. Induction be-rnn be-rnn November 12 with most of the cadets reporting on that day. Smith attended Brigham Young University during 1939-40 and joined join-ed the regular Army December, 23, 1940, and was stationed at Hamilton Hamil-ton Field. He was well known in the baseball circles at Preston. At the Replacement Center he will go through five weeks of preliminary pre-liminary trairiing before being sent to a primary flying school where he will start flight training. This five week course will give Smith a thorough military background for becoming an officer in the Army of the United States on graduation grad-uation from an advanced flying school thirty weeks later. In addition, the course is intended intend-ed to prepare the cadet, mentally and physically, for the rigors of the actual flight training to come. Smith will participate in many activities designed to improve his physical condition beyond even the high standard required for entrance. en-trance. The course will also include in-clude the study of subjects ranging rang-ing from military law to signal communications. Upon completion of the course Cadet Smith will enter one of the 13 primary schools located in the Gulf Coast Air Corps Training Area, prepared to concentrate more fully on flying itself than was possible in the past. |
