Show GRAZING STOCK ALONG HIGHWAYS In parts of Utah, cattle and horses still wander about the highways at night, looming up suddenly in front of approaching ap-proaching cars, to the terror of the night motorist. The country about Milford is fairly free from this evil as farmers about keep their stock fenced in. But to drive dowin the Arrowhead trail from Nephi to Beaver at night is a task only for the most courageous. Those who have felt that sickening feeling when a mule or horse rose out of the darkness in front of their car can well appreciate the fact. Yes, we might as well admit that we ran into a cow the other night. But we did fairly well in that we out-dodged and out-guessed a hundred or so other cows. Seriously, if a farmer cares anything about the future of his dairy cows and calves, he might do worse than to keep them off the highways. Otherwise, if they continue to flirt with automobile radiators at night the roadside will continue to be strewn with veal croquettes. |
