Show CROWDED BOOTHS i MARK THE SECOND ... COMMUNITY FAIR GREATER INTEREST AND FINER EXHIBITS ATTRACT CROWDS CLUBHOUSE FILLED - The field and home products of Milford's adjacent farm territory, known, as South Milford, were displayed dis-played to fine advantage this Wednesday Wednes-day at the -South Milford Community Fair, held at the South Milford Community Com-munity club house. Although this is only the second year of the fair, the little club house proved inadequate in the task of furnishing room for. the exhibits and the crowd of people. The hall was . portioned off with booths, each decorated in the colors of late summer. One of the most outstanding out-standing exhibits was that of the household arts, such as needjecraft, painting,' tapestry and the like. The list of prize winners in this wonder--fui exhibit will be published Utter., along" with . other ribbon takers.. The garden stuff looked good, and the potato group was perhaps the best of this display. Vegetables included in-cluded everything but ' tomatoes, which, do not thrive well on the soil of the flats. The seed display . showed good samples of oats, spring and Sevier wheat, barley and corn. The season was a little early for the best corn. No . rye was displayed as it is not grown locally. Alfalfa seed was well arrtinged and showed interesting samples of grades, and refuse and by-products in cleaning. 1 . A booth was given over to pastries and jams, jellies and pickles-.:; The . pWze-winning cakes were sold ,' and were purchased early on. the opening ?f the fair. There was a niche for children's handiwork and there were several interesting in-teresting articles from the realm of manual arts. An old-fashioned exhibit ex-hibit consisted of the old spinning wheel - and other pioneer household ' equipment, in charge of. three pion-' eer. women of the community. ... . The stock display was held rn the Levi stock pens south of the . club house. All types of farm stock were displayed and the animals included ' riding and work horses and dairy ' cows.. Judging began in the morning. At noon, there was a program of music. Lecturers from the State. and Branch Agricultural Colleges and. State Department De-partment of Agriculture spoke in the afternoon. An interesting display was that of J. E- Blazzard, of the -State Department of Agriculture, .-who has made a hobby of collecting, and mounting mount-ing insects, obnoxious ,, weeds, and rodents of the. fields. The day closed with a dance in the' ' evening at which both the modern -. and old-fashioned steps were given equal attention by their devotees. With the present strides made in a forward direction by the South Mil-ford Mil-ford people, it would seem that the'' South Milford Fair is now securely established and should grow bigger each ' year. The exhibits were . all from the flats and the details 'of ' work were all cheerfully looked after by South Milford people. No. other; income from the fair was-; received, other than by 'the. serving of, a plate luncheon, the auction .of. food, and by the. dance in the evening. For bene fieial results from the fair, -the permanence per-manence of the event ' takes . second place, only to the stinking demonstration' demonstra-tion' of the fertility of the land which m lies to the south of Milford. |
