Here is a final look at the standings stand-ings and scoring leaders this season: WOODS CROSS Region Four soccer champion Woods Cross be-gins be-gins the task of defending its state championship this afternoon, when the undefeated Wildcats host Cyprus at 3 p.m. Woods Cross, 15-0 on the year, will take on the Pirates without the services of senior goalkeeper Sean Simons, who was injured in the season finale against Highland and will not be in goal throughout the remainder of the year. But coach Kevin Rigby said last Friday that if Simons' injury permits, he may play him as a forward for part of the tournament action. Last week. Bountiful defeated Highland 3-1 to finish second in league, forcing the Rams to meet Davis for the third and final state berth. In that game, played Friday at Rosewood Park in North Salt Lake, the Darts battered the Rams 7-1. Consequently, Bountiful was to host Taylorsville yesterday afternoon, while Davis was slated to play at Cottonwood. Under a new playoff system being used this year for both soccer and baseball, 16 teams will meet in preliminary playoff games, with the eight survivors then entering a double-elimination tournament. In soccer, that tournament will begin later this week at Clearfield High. "It gives an extra four teams a chance to go into the playoffs," Rigby explained. "But it takes away the advantage the four region champs have had before, when we received first-round byes."
