Show Davis captures region track ft 3$ hi -; !tt v ft 'tf ViwI j J " ' &JL "sV . l A-r.r.j KAYSVILLE - Davis rolled to the boys and girls titles during the Region Four track championships Thursday and Friday. The Darts easily outdistanced Woods Cross for the boys' title and Viewmont for the girls' crown. Final totals in the boys competition competi-tion show Davis with 190 points, followed by Woods Cross III, Bountiful 74, Highland 70, Viewmont View-mont 53 and East 30. Among local athletes winning region championships champion-ships were Dave Brannan of Woods Cross, taking the pole vault with a jump of 14 feet; Carl Ward of Woods Cross, who took titles in the 100 meter (11.26), 400 meter (50.24) and 200 meter (22.45); Shawn Frasier of Woods Cross in the shot put (50-7'); Joey Covey of Bountiful in the 300 meter hurdles hur-dles (39.12); and Matt Roat of Woods Cross in the 800 meter (1:58.14). In addition, Bountiful's 400 meter relay team (43.86) and Woods Cross' medley relay team (3:40.32) also took region titles. In the girls competition, Davis amassed 147 points, followed by Viewmont 98.5, East 77, Bountiful 73.5, Woods Cross 63, and Highland High-land 34. Winners included Wendi Warhurst of Woods Cross in javelin jave-lin (127-8); Ami Sessions of Woods Cross in the 1600 meter (5:32.92) and 800 meter (2:26.29); and Stephanie Spendlove of Viewmont in the 3200 meter (13:17.68). Many of the athletes not winning during region will still participate in this weekend's 4A track champion ship at Weber State. Action begins Friday and continues Saturday in Wildcat Stadium. |
