Dr. L. H. Bates, supervisor of the program, estimated the central kitchen kit-chen will reach daily output of 7400 meals within a few weeks. It is anticipated that during the school year one million meals will be served serv-ed through the program. The meals served are nutritionally nutrition-ally well-balanced. Price per meal 20c for elementary and junior pupils and 25c for senior high school students. The prices do not reflect costs, Dr. Bates added. An extensive canning program during the summer months provides pro-vides some of the food utilized in the program. Last summer nearly 7,000 cases of fruit were canned in preparation for the winter lunch I program. Vacuum cans are used to transport trans-port the hot food from the central kitchen to the various schools and permit the use of a wide variety of foods. ' |
