Show Seagull Drug Co. Announces $20,000 Construction Program A $20,000 construction program of the Seagull Drug Co., 2115 So..llth East, is scheduled to get underway in three or four weeks, Joseph S. Peery and Grant M. MIdgley, co-owners, announced Tuesday. The program will consist largely of renovating the present site of the store and expanding it eastward to occupy the present site of the O. P. Skaggs market. This expansion will give Seagull Drug Co. approximately approx-imately three times its present floor space and will make it one of the largest drug stores in the city, the "owners said. Actual construction will not take place until the market has been moved mov-ed to its new building at 21st South and 13th East. Two Main Sections Outside appearance of the store will not change materially. Inside, however, many new features fea-tures are planned. The expanded expand-ed drug store will be divided into two main sections: the present pres-ent store site will handle the renovated and expanded drug departments under the supervision su-pervision of the regular store clerks. The east section, or present site of O. P. Skaggs market, will house the self-service department. A check stand for this department will be in the center section of the store between the two departments. At the east end of the self-service department will be the greatly enlarged prescription department under the super- approximately the center of the building. One of the main features of the building will be its lighting, Mr. Peery stated. Slim-type fluorescent fixtures throughout the store will afford a maximum of light for customers. Seventy foot candles of light will illumine il-lumine the store. (Average store lighting: 15 foot candles.) The store will be completely painted in pastel shades in addition. ad-dition. New modernistic flooring floor-ing will be laid throughout the store. Years of Planning Culminating many years of planning and designing on the part of Messrs, Midgley and Peery, the new store will be scientifically designed "for the convenience of the customer." Departments will be planned so as to give the customer quick and easy service to get what he wants. One attractive innovation: innova-tion: both men and women will have a separate department for their personal drug needs. A complete camera department has been planned. An expanded expand-ed cosmetic bar, a greatly enlarged en-larged baby department, a ney 12 foot cooler will be installed and the magazine and candy departments will be increased. Increased parking facilities are being planned, Mr. Midgley pointed out. Parking :;pace will be expanded to the south of the present lot in the southeast corner of the market square. . Floor space, as shown in the blue prints, will cover an area of 138 feet by 40 feet plus stock room space. This will total some 56,000 square feet as com- pared to the present i,uuu.
