Show Communities Urged to Adopt Centennial Plans Now , Unless quick action is taken j by county and community Cen-.) Cen-.) tennial committees or by schools, organizations, churches or civic groups to sponsor brilliant light opera, drama, art exhibits and kodachrome shows, they may lose that opportunity, Dr. Lorin F. Wheelwright, production manager of the Arts Division of the Centennial commission, announced an-nounced this week. The commission has offered to a limited number of larger communities com-munities the presentation of the Utah Symphony orchestra; to every theater which can stage a production with a cast of 40 people the light opera "Blossom Time" with a professional cast; to all communities with good stages and sufficient seating capacity ca-pacity dramatic productions by the Brigham Young University, U. of U and U.S.A.C. dramatic groups; and to almost all schools, churches or organizations organiza-tions the kodachrome shows. To obtain these production it is necessary to sign contracts with Wallace A. Goates, booking representative of the commission. commis-sion. Contracts are so framed that in almost all instances, the production is given at a loss to the Centennial commission, and so that with reasonable cooperation coopera-tion the local sponsoring group can make expenses, or a possible pos-sible profit. The proposed productions are part of the Centennial program of providing to smaller communities com-munities presentations of quality qual-ity and size which they could not normally support, pocketing a monetary loss as the state's contribution to the local Centennial Cen-tennial festivities. Admission prices also have been set at an unusual low. Most communities, according to Mr. Goates, have exhibited interest in being included in the coming schedules, but have been slow in completing arrangements ar-rangements by signing contracts and setting dates. They should contact Mr. Goates immediately if they want to be retained on the proposed schedule by writing writ-ing Wallace A. Goates. Centennial Centen-nial Commission, Box 329,, Salt. Lake City, 8, Utah. The productions are expected to take the road by Feb. 1 according ac-cording to Mr. Goates, and schedules sched-ules must be completed before that time. |
