Silard recently announced his resignation which became effective Jan. 1. His plans for the future are "very definite," but "not open for publication pub-lication at the present time." Mr. Silard, known to hundreds of Utahns as "Major" Silard, took over the duties of executive secretary sec-retary last June after serving six years as U. S. Marine recruiting re-cruiting officer of the Utah district. dis-trict. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, An-napolis, Mr. Silard spent 24 years with the marine corps, having served in the Orient, Eu- rope, South America and in many posts in the states. While in charge of enlistments in Utah, Mr. Silard inaugurated the now famous "Mormon Battalion" Bat-talion" recruiting program which attracted nationwide attention. at-tention.
