Show NEW DRIVE-IN THEATER PLANNED FOR SOUTHEAST Plans have been completed for the building of the southeast's first motor-in theater to be constructed con-structed sometime this spring. The owners, Erick and Carl Peterson. Pe-terson. 2205 E. 33rd South, and Dale R. Jensen, an electrical engineer en-gineer with the Geneva Steel Co. in Provo, have announced that the approximate capacity of the drive-in to be 600 cars and that the cost of the project will be about S65,000. The planning of the theater. done during the past year, is a 'family affair," according to Erick Peterson, the father of Carl and the father-in-law of I Mr. Jensen, who is married to j Cleo Peterson. On a vacation I last summer the three examined similar drive-in theaters in several sev-eral states for ideas. Mr. Peterson announced that the drive-in would create a new class of theater-goers. "Just think," he said, "the young couple cou-ple with a new baby can put him (or her) in the bassinet in the back seat of the car and go to the movie. And a large family can have a night out together. It wall lie good for poor and rich alike; the poor because of economy, the rich because they can show off their new cars." Located at 3500 East 33rd South on the Valley View Park subdivision, the ten-acre tract of land is valued at $10,000. The huge screen will be approximately approximate-ly 50 feet wide and 50 feet high. The projection building1 and rest rooms will be located in the center of the parking ramp. The $65,000 structure will be the first of its type ever built in the Salt Lake area. It will lie constructed on a natural slope, thereby affording a maximum of visibility to the outdoor theater-goers. |
