Show The Association Needls You IGHT MONTHS after its conception, the "Associated Clubs of Southeast Salt Lake" is still very much in the embryo stage. Anxious directors hope to bring about the birth in time for the first annual meeting which is to be held in the fore part of January. Two knotty problems face the directors as they meet Sunday afternoon, Dec. 19: (1) what to do about four out not yet affiliated; (2) how to provide for the affiliation of not yet affiliated; (2..) how to provide for the affiliation of interested southeasterners who are not members of any civic club. If a reasonable answer for each of these questions ques-tions can be obtained from Sunday's discussion, the association asso-ciation has a fair thance to take its place in the sun. The southeast area, which roughly comprises everything every-thing from 13th South out to Cottonwood and from 5th tial area with several focal points of commercial expansion. Land which was under cultivation not long ago is now the scene of extensive housing developments. Sugar House, Highland Center, East Mill Creek and Holladay have burgeoning bur-geoning business districts. In most neighborhoods of course, there are small shopping centers. The residential and commercial expansion has been so sudden, and so great, that neither the city nor the county have hardly begun to solve the problems which have arisen, let alone make needed improvements. It is time for the citizens of this section to show a little Ameircanism in action, and do a few things for themselves. them-selves. The Associated Clubs of Southeast Salt Lake of- n fers us this opportunity. It is the best hope perhaps the onyl hope for the betterment of this great area. If we pass it by, we will soon see a blight descend on southeast south-east Salt Lake for lack of planning. We all want continued growth, but let's make it intelligent, intelli-gent, planed growth, and not helter-skelter expansion. We all want more businesses to locate out here, but let's show them the value of integrated commercial districts. We want more parks and playgrounds, good roads, adequate ade-quate hospital and public health service, better sch6ols, and clean, inviting residences. For your own good, southeasterners, give your -support to the Associated Clubs of Southeast Salt Lake! |
