Show Libbie Edward Honored Guest At Open House An hour long program, followed fol-lowed by a public reception was held Thursday evening in honor of Miss Libbie Edward, promj-ent promj-ent educator and school leader. Place of the meeting was the new Libbie Edward School, 1655 E. 33rd South, named in her honor. Highlight of the program was the presentation of a portrait por-trait of Miss Edward, painted by Granite district teacher. Miss June Hopkinson. F. Earl Walker, Walk-er, school principal, accepted the gift. The open house reception was presented by teachers and administrators ad-ministrators of the Granite district. dis-trict. Miss Edward spoke briefly at the program which was held in the school auditorium. David Gourley, district superintendent, superintend-ent, outlined purposes of the new Libbie Edward school. The school orchestra, directed by LaRue Maw, furnished musical musi-cal entertainment. The public reception included in-cluded a tour of the school, conducted con-ducted by school principal and teachers. Refreshments were served by the Parent-Teachers Assn. with Mrs. Ralph D. Mc-Murdie Mc-Murdie in charge. Miss Edward was graduated ' from the University of Utah in 1896 and began h.eriaeching ca-career ca-career in a one-room classroom for children of all elementary grades at South Weber, Davis County. She later taught in Jordan Jor-dan and Granite school districts, becoming Granite's elementary supervisor in 1908. |
