Stake Explorer Basketball Ends First Half Play With Bryan in Lead First half of the Sugar House, Stake Explorers basketball tour-i nament closed with undefeated I Bryan Ward one game ahead of second-place Emerson. The 1 Jiowerful Emerson squad, led by a oleman and Swope, lost only i Bryan in the six-game schedule. sched-ule. Led by tall Ray Buhler and Maurice Wilkinson, the Bryan Warders have romped over all comers, with their only scare being a 17-16 victory over Richards, Rich-ards, last year's' second-place team. Close Call Emerson had one close game with the Sea Scouts, winning by only one point. The Sea Scouts have not won a game in two years, but have garnered three sportsmanship trophies. Emerson evidently thought it had a "push over" and failed to take advantage of their height on the backboards. Not out of the running is Coach Don Ostler's Marlborough team and Richard Ward's five, small, but scrappy. These two teams, along with Hawthorne, which got a slow start, are in a three-way tie for third with three wine and three losses apiece. I Next Year Sugar House, with almost all' ! new players, is sixth. They should be a power next year when most teams will lose their i experienced men. I The Sea Scouts are in the cellar, cel-lar, but seem to have a lot of fun in spite of their losses. Outstanding players this year are the Buhler-Wilkinson combination com-bination from Bryan, backed up by plenty of depth in reserves. Coleman and Swope of Emerson Emer-son are also an outstanding combination, com-bination, ais are the Kelsch brothers of Marlborough. Second Half Schedule Play has been in Irving Gym and has been suspended for the Christmas holidays. The second sec-ond half will begin Jan. 3 with the following schedule: 7:30 p.m. Richards vs. Sugar House. 8:30 p.m. Emerson vs: Marlborough. Marl-borough. 9:30 p.m. Hawthorne vs. Bryan.
