Show Crackdown Snares PeSt Smuggler First arrest in a state-wide crackdown on predatory animal pelt smugglers was announced Monday by J. II. Crofts, state agricultural commission chairman. chair-man. The pelt smuggler was fined $295. At the same time, Mr. Crofts announced that bounty payments pay-ments during 1949 on predatory animals totaled $26,970; less than half the amount paid bounty boun-ty hunters in 1948. The agricultural commission chief said the decrease was due to a decrease in the number of predatory animals in the state. He pointed out that since 1946, when bounty payments totaled $121,000, the number of predatory preda-tory animals turned in for payment pay-ment has decreased steadily. |
