Show Thomas Awarded For Services To Nation's Children Senator Elbert D. Thomas (D. Utah) was honored Feb. 16 in Washington, D. C. with the annual award of the American Parents committee for his distinguished distin-guished services to the nation's children. The award, in the shape of an inscribed plaque was presented to the Senator by Mrs. Jack B. Fahy, executive director of the American Parents committee, at a luncheon ceremony cere-mony in the Congressional hotel on Capitol Hill. As chairman of the important Labor and Public Welfare committee, com-mittee, Senator Thomas was influential in-fluential in passing the Federal Aid for Education bill during the first session of this Congress. He is author of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which practically abolishes child labor through its recent amendment. He is responsible for the Soldier Sol-dier Education bill in the G. I. Bill of Rights, and his leadership leader-ship in the Senate Labor and Public Welfare committee led to unanimous support of the following measures directly benefitting ben-efitting children: National School Health bill. Hospital Construction act, Federal Aid for Education, Local Public Health units, Aid to Medical Education, and National Science Foundation. Mrs. Fahy made- the presentation presenta-tion on behalf of George J. Hecht, chairman of the American Ameri-can Parents committee, and publisher pub-lisher of Parents' magazine. The committee was organized three years ago to work for the improvement im-provement of conditions affecting' affect-ing' children nationally and locally. |
